Diva Takes Center Stage

Last weekend was Recital weekend for Diva and her ballet class. The show was amazing as usual. Over 20 acts with dancers ranging from age 4 to adult. Diva was in the Wildflower act and I, as usual, was a backstage mom. I have a feeling that I will never see Diva perform from the from the audience, but I don't mind because it is so much fun to watch these little girls conquer their anxiety, pour their hearts into the show, and bask in the excitement of the performance. Diva was old enough to dance both the Saturday and Sunday shows this year and she and her class did a great job. Coming off this performance, she can't wait to go to dance camp this summer and wants to take Jazz as well as Ballet next year (so she can have two costumes at the recital :0).

Hi Mom of 3 Feisty Kids -

Diva loves the recital - all year long she complains about going to dance class, but as soon as they start talking costumes, hair and make-up she is in the zone!

Yup [I have mixed feelings about ballet ] but the 'kill the beast of fear' is a great one to get under control early.
Cheers

I took ballet for about 3 weeks when I was Diva's age. The instructor was very "old school" ballet and managed to humiliate every little ballerina in the room on a regular basis. Diva's instructor loves kids and loves dance (any and all dance). She is very fun loving and makes learning the basics seem like child's play (which it really is at 4 to 10 years old!) Sometimes Diva gets frustrated because the whole thing is not taken seriously enough for her. But that is one of the reasons we have her do this - although she is not ASD, her low threshold for anxiety leaves her more ridged than Little Frog at times. This is a good, safe place for her to experience a little uncertainty. She also is an exceptionally gifted little dancer and I know she will resent me later if I let her quit now.

She looks so beautiful...just like a ballerina. Boo took ballet too and also had a recital. I must say that it was a really cool experience for all of us. She decided not to continue, because I think she perfers a more free style of dancing :o)

I loved the costumes too!

It really does look like a lot of fun. I never took dance as a kid - maybe because my mom was a bit *too* worried about having me do stereotypical girl things - and I always wanted to. It's great that she loves it so.

oh well done to the diva!!!

My ballet teacher was a bit mad, I think she broke my legs, lol!!

I then started all kinds of dance when I was older but sadly was messed about by the teaher, she always taught me during my exercise class that I took after dance so I gave it up.

I loved the cotumes as well however on looking back I have no idea why, lol.
